From the Couch to the 5K Finish Line

A few years ago, I looked in the mirror and knew something had to change.

In 3 months, I lost 70 lbs and started running. At first, I got winded just walking the neighborhood.

I didn’t start running to get fit—I started running so I could eat more. (Seriously. The treadmill said I could “earn” a few more bites for every mile. That math worked for me.)

My wife joined in too—she lost 40 lbs and started running.

One day, she said, “You should run a race.” So I signed up for a 5K.

I crossed that finish line sweaty, slow, and behind the speed walkers. But that tiny victory set off a chain of life-changing events.

What was a small step you took that turned out to be a big deal later on?
